The jury in the Ryan Widmer murder retrial started early and stayed late Tuesday to hear two key prosecution witnesses: the Warren County coroner and the lead detective who investigated the bathtub-drowning of Widmer’s 24-year-old wife, Sarah. Coroner Russell Uptegrove spent about 4½ hours testifying, mostly giving detailed technical descriptions of the injuries found on Sarah Widmer after she died Aug. 11, 2008. Her husband is on trial for the second time. A judge threw out a jury’s guilty verdict last year because of juror misconduct. Later, under questioning by defense lawyer Jay Clark, the coroner revealed that the tube had been inserted in the wrong spot. “You didn’t say anything to the jury” about that while the prosecutor was doing the questioning, Clark said.
